Do You Mind? A Renewed Mind is a Refreshed Mind
The human brain weighs about 3 pounds. It is comprised of one hundred billion neurons and has an incredible ten thousand thoughts per day. Our brains regulate our heartbeat at about 103,000 heartbeats every day. Additionally, experts say, the human brain facilitates more than 23,000 breaths per day and controls over 600 muscles in the human body. Therefore, the brain is essential to our mental, emotional, physical health!
Yet, it is the mind's impact on our spiritual health that is the primary concern of our Creator. Christians must, "set their minds on the things of the spirit," (Romans 8:5). This is not easy because of our sinfulness. The Bible says we no longer concern ourselves with thoughts of God (Ps 53:1). We can be blinded by Satan (2 Cor 4:4). Even at our best and on our own...we no longer walk in the light (John 12:35-36).
Therefore, it is paramount that we "set our minds on things that are above," (Col. 3:2). Things above are where the mind of God is. God's Son, our Savior, has the mind that we should have. Paul said to the Philippian believers, "have the mind of Christ" (Phil. 2). Subsequently, Christians must use each opportunity to grow more like our Lord by having the same mind our Lord has!
Unfortunately, too many of us are conformed to the culture! Instead, we should be "transformed by the renewing" of our minds (Rom. 12). A transformed life begins with a renewed mind. We must think on things that are true, honorable...pure, lovely and more (Phil. 4). When believers fill themselves with God's Word and focus on His grace, beauty, purity, mercy and more...the Christian is able to live a life that gives glory to God and contributes to the growth of him/herself and the church.
So, what can you do, today in order to have a strong, healthy mind?
First, reflect on Gods's truth! Read and reread the profound truths of Scripture. Fill your mind with God's rich treasure trove of truth. Also, reflect on those moments that God rescued you, grew you, forgave you and shaped you more into the image of Christ. Reflection on God's truth is non-negotiable if you are going to have a strong, healthy mind!
Second, reject error. Satan is having his way with many people today. Men and women are believing lies much like Eve did in the Garden. The lies of the devil are prevalent, today! Christians must reject the lies of the liar himself, Satan. Rejection of error is non-negotiable in order to have a strong, healthy mind!
Third, protect that which is good. Be alert so that you may be a protector of truth and beauty. Additionally, be alert to the strategy of Satan. Be courageous enough to stand firm in the faith. God's pure truth must be protected. His work, will and way must also be protected against all the assaults of the enemy. Protection of that which is good is non-negotiable to having a strong, healthy mind!
Reflect on God's profound truth and His work throughout history and in your life. Reject Satan's attack on God's truth, our traditions, values and virtues. Protect the good. Be courageous to stand firm in the faith and compassionate toward the brokenhearted.
Yes, your mind is an amazing gift from God! Use it wisely so that you may be filled with discernment. A discerning and disciplined mind will bless you and others, as well!
